ELF Studio Single Eyeshadows Review and Swatches

I have had these eyeshadows for a good 6-7 months froma previous hall I did that was I believe 50% off. I have not done a review on it since I did not own all colors, well I think I did, but my sister and cousin snagged a couple of eyeshadows from me and I ended up not having all colors. Anyway, I recently purchased 9 pieces from eyeslipsface.com this last July 3, and I used the coupon code ECD2 to get 50% off the Studio Line cosmetics. I bought Sea Blue that day but this recent week, I checked ELF's website and Sea Blue has been discontinued 0_o That was wierd, since it was one of the most pigmented shadows of the studio single eyeshadows line. So these shadows are $3.00 USD each. You may purchase them from ELF's website, eyelipsface.com or from your local Target or Kmart.

Packaging:

Each eyeshadow comes in 0.097 oz or 2.75 grams. It is approximately 1.5 by 1 inch rectangular plastic, flip top case. It may look like the same packaging as NARS' single eyeshadows, except NARS' only weighs 0.07 oz. I do not own any NARS eyeshadows but from the looks of it, ELF looks very similar to NARS. The plastic covering is a matte black plastic. It seems pretty decent and sturdy to me. The inside has a small glass mirror and a clear plastic strip that shows the color of the shadow inside. The back does not have a stamped logo or name on the plastic container. It only has a round sticker with the print out of the shadow's name.

Color Payoff:

I am in a limbo on deciding it I really like these shadows. First and foremeost, I had a hard time swatching these shadows into my hand. I had to swatch it 3-4 times to actually show the colors in camera. By doing so many swatches, it did build up the color, but also created a lot of fallouts. This being said, the colors when built up is really pretty. One more thing to add, I did not use a primer in the beginning when swatching the individual shadows. I only used a primer when swatching the shadows all together.  I also tried swatching it wet after I finished doing the video and it definitely has a better color payoff.

Texture:

I agree that these shadows have a soft texture. I also noticed that because the texture was softer, the shadows were swatching more powdery as well. It's not powdery-like-talc-like but it has a creamy powdery texture. It can go on uneven, so blending is the key. The problem with blending this shadow, the fallouts are a lot. The shadows are very blendable though so I am happy with this.

Smell:

No weird or funky smell at all, thumbs up for that!!!

Staying Power:

Let me just say that you NEED to use an eyeshadow primer or at least a base before using these shadows. It is a creamy powdery shadow that will crease, and will fade if an eyeshadow base/primer is not used. It may last a good 2-3 hrs before getting everywhere around your eyes. If used with a primer, it can last a good 6-7 hrs.

The Bottomline:

If you are expecting an exact dupe of NARS' eyeshadows, you are in for a disappointment. The color pigmentation is not as vibrant and pigmented as NARS'. However, for the price of $3 USD compared to NARS' $24 USD per eyeshadow, this is a much better option for your pocket. The color needs to be built up, but make sure you do your eye makeup first before doing your entire face when placing makeup. I like that the color selection is mostly neutrals, but they also offer a couple of vibrant colors as well.

My Personal Rating:

I'll give these shadows a 3/5. I like the packaging, the neutral color selections and of course, the price. I took points off for the shadows being too powdery and with a lot of fallouts as well as it's lack in pigmentation.

A slight metallic light shimmery greyish mud green

Pebble

A satin finnished taupe-y light greyish brown color

Purple Passion

A lightly frosty, satin-like texture lilac purple color

Raspberry Truffle

A metallic shimmery reddish brown violet, dark plummy color

Saddle

A slightly metallic, frosty dark brown with red tones, rust-like colors with slight shimmer

Sand Dollar

A frosty white colors with micro mini white shimmers

Sea Blue

A rich navy bright blue color with cyan-colored shimmer

Sunset

A peachy orangy color with yellow gold micro shimmers. My cam couldn't take an accurate picture. Looks very different in real like, as well as swatch.

Totally Teal

 A bright bluish green frosty color with a light micro shimmery specks of light blue and silver

Wild Wheat

A light brown, almost light tan/nude color with small micro flex of yellow gold shimmers
